ABSTRACT Sculptures

"Sculpture must, above all, be a thing of beauty; it must uplift the spirit and enhance its surroundings."

Sculpture is all about form and birds have such beautiful lines that they are an ideal subject to abstract. Abstraction is all about keeping the essence of the subject whilst minimising the detail; removing everything but the essential lines to portray the creature. Although all these sculptures are inspired by particular species the process of minimising the form often removes that link; it still looks like a bird but not necessarily one you would recognise.
